More people will be arrested in a federal investigation into NXIVM, which prosecutors describe a sadistic sex cult, which so far has snared two of the group's alleged leaders, Keith Raniere and the actress Allison Mack.

"We anticipate that there will be additional charges and additional defendants in this case", Assistant U.S. Attorney Moira Kim Penza said at a hearing before U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis in Brooklyn federal court.

A trial date has been set for 1 October this year.

The court appearance Friday is one of several the pair will have before trial. They allege Raniere created a secret society within NXIVM called "DOS", in which "masters" held "slaves".
